158. Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Finance if he will be a member of the Irish delegation to the Kyoto summit on climate change; and, if not, the reason for his non-attendance in view of the economic implications of CO 2 abatement. [19587/97]

Minister for Finance (Mr. McCreevy): The Minister for Finance will not be a member of the Irish delegation to Kyoto. The Minister for the Environment and Local Government takes the lead role on environmental matters, including climate change. Any consultations required with regard to economic matters occur at official level in the normal way.
