195. Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in making a REP scheme payment to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [18791/97]

Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh): The applicant was eligible to apply for a third year payment from 1 July 1997. However, his application was not lodged in the local FDS office until 1 October 1997 and was then randomly selected for inspection to ensure compliance with the requirements of the scheme. This has now been completed and payment issued on 10 November 1997.
