Mr. Aylward Mr. Aylward
181. Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will review the date of payment under the farm retirement scheme to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny in order to issue arrears in view of the fact that application was made on 5 June 1996 but despite numerous telephone calls and letters, this person received no communication from his Department until October 1996 when a query issued to him from the Department and was dealt with by his solicitors within three weeks of receiving same. Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh) Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh)
Minister for Agriculture and Food (Mr. Walsh): The Deputy can be assured that where unavoidable delays occur in processing applications under the early retirement scheme applicants will not be penalised. I am, therefore, making arrangements to have the commencement date of pensions adjusted to take account of the unavoidable delays in this and similar cases.
