Written Answers - Hospital Services.

68. Mr. T. Kitt asked the Minister for Health the services which will be available to the people of Dublin South in the new Tallaght Hospital; and when the hospital will open. [8688/97]

Minister for Health (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East): The full range of medical and surgical services currently being provided at the Adelaide, Meath and National Children's Hospitals will transfer to the new hospital at Tallaght.

Tallaght Hospital will also have a modern acute psychiatric unit which is being transferred from St. Loman's Hospital.

The new hospital will obviously allow for the existing services to be provided in greatly enhanced facilities. An example of this will be the improved accident and emergency services, out-patients facilities and a full laboratory service.

The opening date of the hospital is contingent on a decision to be made by the management of the hospital and the needs of patients it serves. I have not yet received a proposed opening date but I envisage it could open towards the end of this year.
