240. Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education if she will approve the provision of a new school to replace St. Oliver's post primary school, Oldcastle, County Meath, in view of the fact that the existing buildings are in poor condition and that refurbishment would cost £1.1 million, while a new school on the same site would cost £1.45 million; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7982/97]

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): Because of the condition of the existing accommodation at St. Oliver's post primary school, Oldcastle, the Department requested that a technical assessment be carried out before any decision is made on whether to extend the existing school or provide a new school. County Meath vocational education committee appointed an architect to undertake the feasibility study. The feasibility study was submitted to the Department and is currently being considered. A response will be conveyed to County Meath vocational education committee as soon as possible.
