217. Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Environment when the tender for the extension of the Ballyjamesduff regional water supply scheme to Mountnugent, County Cavan, will be approved; when construction work will commence; the funding that will be provided for this [1660] scheme in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for the Environment (Mr. Howlin): A tender for the Mountnugent extension has been approved. It is now a matter for Cavan County Council to make the necessary arrangements so that construction may commence. Since this scheme is included in my Department's water and sewerage services work programme for 1997, payments to the local authority will be made as work proceeds and as appropriate claims are made.
