143. Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine whether a lake (details supplied) in County Mayo is State-owned; if so, the plans, if any, he has for development works to this lake; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7792/97]

Minister for the Marine (Mr. Barrett): As indicated to the Deputy on 25 February last it is the understanding of the Central Fisheries Board that the lake in question is State-owned.

I am advised by the Central Fisheries Board, which is responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the Tourism Angling Measure of the Operational Programme for Tourism, that a funding application has been made for development works on the lake in question. I will arrange for the Central Fisheries Board to contact the Deputy directly in relation to the proposal.
