100. Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the dissatisfaction of a person (details supplied) in County Cork who had surgery in January 1997 and was to be recalled within four calendar weeks but to date has not been called and is suffering severe pain; if he will request the hospital to assist in this regard. [4849/97]

Minister for Health (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East): As the determination of patient appointments is a matter for the hospital authorities in the first instance, I have asked the secretary manager at the Mercy Hospital to investigate the position regarding this patient. Given the circumstances of this case, I have requested that he reply to the Deputy directly, as a matter of urgency.
