Dáil Éireann - Volume 475 - 20 February, 1997

Written Answers. - Stardust Tribunal.

85. Mr. S. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment if he will review the findings of the Stardust Tribunal of Inquiry in view of the new developments in forensic investigation outlined in an article in the February 1997 edition of Garda Review. [4774/97]

Minister for the Environment (Mr. Howlin): One of the hypotheses considered by the Stardust Tribunal of Inquiry was that the fire was started by a smouldering coat but the tribunal found that this hypothesis was not supported by the evidence and provided no satisfactory explanation for the rapid spread of fire from seat to seat. The article referred to does not contain any new evidence which would warrant a review by me of the findings of the tribunal.
