Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will ensure that extra resources are made available to the Wildlife Service to stop poaching of deer in view of the horrible suffering caused by this criminal activity, particularly to animals wounded at night by low calibre weapons. Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht (Mr. M. Higgins): I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 78 on 13 February 1997. I am discussing with the Minister for Finance the need to recruit more rangers for the National Parks and Wildlife Service of my Department and I hope to be in a position to make an announcement in due course.
