Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

120. Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will pay a reactor grant to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [4608/97]

Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates): TB reactor grants due to the person named will be processed for payment as soon as the local district veterinary office receives a tax reference number from the person concerned.

[472] 121. Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will pay a hardship grant to persons (details supplied) in County Cork. [4609/97]

Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates): Under the terms of the hardship grant scheme, a herdowner whose holding is restricted under either the TB or brucellosis eradication schemes and who, inter alia, is not supplying any milk for sale at the time of application, is eligible to be considered for hardship payments. However, any subsequent supply of milk for sale at any time after the herdowner is deemed eligible for hardship grant will render the herdowner ineligible from the first date of supply of milk.

The second person referred to by the Deputy is the registered herdowner. A hardship grant application from this person dated 31 October 1996 was received in the local district veterinary office on 4 November 1996. Information obtained by the local district veterinary office during the processing stage of the application, confirms that the herdowner continued to supply milk for sale from 4 November 1996 onwards. The herdowner was therefore deemed ineligible for a hardship grant and has been notified accordingly by the local district veterinary office.
