Mr. J. Walsh Mr. J. Walsh
282. Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will publish the consultants report by Ernst and Young on the cost of providing a State organised veterinary inspection service in meat plants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4559/97]
Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates) Ivan Yates
Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates): The report in question was commissioned by my Department in the context of a settlement of legal proceedings taken by the meat industry over the collection of the meat inspection fees. Further issues, in relation to inspection fees, have now arisen which must be resolved between the beef industry and my Department. Discussions between the parties are in progress. I intend to release the report when these issues are clarified.
