Mr. Bree Mr. Bree
82. Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Health the reason a person (details supplied) in County Sligo was not admitted to St. Camillus short stay unit, Mater Hospital, Dublin 7 on Monday, 7 October 1996; if he will have investigations made into the reason the hospital cancelled the admission at the last moment; the new arrangements, if any, which have been made for the admission of this person to the Mater Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19702/96]
Minister for Health (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East) Michael Noonan
Minister for Health (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East): I have been advised by the Mater Hospital that the person referred to by the Deputy was placed on the waiting list for trans lumbar aortogram under the care of Mr. Corrigan on 9 September 1996. The patient was allocated a date for this procedure on 7 October 1996 but this appointment was cancelled. This was due to the need to carry out major surgery on in-patients who were admitted through the accident and emergency department. Such cancellations take place from time to time as emergency cases must be given priority. However, the Mater Hospital has indicated that the person concerned has been given a new appointment and is scheduled to be admitted for surgery on 18 November 1996.
