Written Answers. - Cork School Building Project.

212. Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education if she will respond favourably to correspondence (details supplied) concerning a school building project in County Cork. [18375/96]

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): My Department has considered a request for a general purpose hall at the school referred to by the Deputy.

Due to the level of contractual commitments on the primary school capital programme, I am [113] not in a position to sanction grant-aid towards this facility.

While my Department is anxious to extend the provision of general purpose facilities in primary schools, the pace at which this can be achieved will be dictated by the financial resources available and the priority must remain the provision of essential classroom accommodation.
