Dáil Éireann - Volume 466 - 13 June, 1996

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

100. Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education the current status regarding applications for national lottery grants from her Department under the recreational facilities scheme: whether applications are currently being accepted; if so, the closing date for receipt of applications; if she will give details of the expected allocation period; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12386/96]

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): The present position is [2235] that my Department has a large volume of applications on hand seeking grant-aid under the recreational facilities scheme. Organisations which applied in 1994 in response to the public advertisement are being requested to update their applications. These applications and all those subsequently received will be assessed in accordance with the published criteria. My Department will continue to accept applications as no closing date has been set. In view of the large number of applications on hand and the amount of work involved in assessing these applications I am not yet in a position to say when grant allocations will be made this year in view of the need to keep expenditure within the approved allocation for 1996.
