98. Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education the total projected cost in 1996 arising from the abolition of university fees. [8379/96]

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): A provision of just over £47 million is included in the 1996 Estimates to cover the cost arising from the abolition of fees for full-time third level undergraduate courses for eligible students. Nearly £43 million of this amount relates to the universities.
