Written Answers. - Junior Cycle Physical Education.

32. Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Education her views regarding the recommendation of the draft interim report by the physical education course committee that students in junior cycle should be entitled to a minimum of two hours physical education per week; and the steps, if any, she is taking to implement this recommendation. [6679/96]

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): A report from the junior certificate physical education course committee has not been received by my Department. However I understand that a draft report has been discussed by the council of the NCCA.

My Department is awaiting proposals which may arise out of the discussions on this report. When the report is submitted by NCCA it will be studied in the Department. I will then decide on the question of its implementation and the timescale of that process.
