Dáil Éireann - Volume 463 - 27 March, 1996

Written Answers. - Broadmeadow Estuary.

57. Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment the opportunity, if any, he has had to inspect the area of the Broadmeadow Estuary, County Dublin which Fingal County Council proposes to seriously alter by building a motorway bridge; his views of the protected status of the natural environment; his views on whether other proposed routes would be ecologically less damaging; and when he proposes to make a decision on the fate of the estuary. [6652/96]

Minister for the Environment (Mr. Howlin): In view of my quasi-judicial role in determining the motorway scheme, it would not be appropriate to comment on the issues referred to at this stage. The inspector who conducted the public local inquiry into the scheme [1104] is currently preparing his report for my consideration. I will carefully consider this and all other relevant matters and give a decision as soon as possible after receiving the report.
