Written Answers. - Dublin Zoo Development Plan.

392. Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the progress, if any, regarding the development plan for Dublin Zoo; whether the development plan approved by the previous Government will be completed on time and within budget; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6381/96]

Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates): The plan for the future of Dublin Zoo is a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works. Under the plan the Government assigned responsibility to my Department for monitoring animal welfare at the Zoo, and I have put a system of inspections in place with a view to ensuring satisfactory welfare standards.
