91. Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if approval has been given for Aer Rianta to purchase a 40 per cent stake in Birmingham City Airport, England. [5923/96]

Minister for Enterprise and Employment (Mr. Bruton): I can confirm that I have given approval for Aer Rianta International to make a bid in partnership with a leading London financial institution for a 40 per cent shareholding in Birmingham Airport.

Aer Rianta International has been selected as the preferred bidder and the due diligence process is currently under way. On completion of this process. Aer Rianta will make a further submission [465] to my Department before any final decision or commitment is made.
