117. Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total cost of non-civil or public service staff attached to [1640] his office for each of the years from 1992; and the estimated cost for 1996. [5326/96]

Minister for Social Welfare (Proinsias De Rossa): All advisory staff recruited to the office of the Minister for Social Welfare are civil servants either established or unestablished. The unestablished civil servants are those who are on contract for the duration of my current tenure as Minister. The costs for each year are made up of salary, allowances, employer's PRSI contributions, superannuation contributions, in the case of unestablished staff and overtime payments.

For clarity I have set out in the following tabular statement the cost of both the established and the unestablished civil servants attached to the office of the Minister over the period in question.

The costs relating to the separate Research Unit appointed to assist me in my position as party leader in Government have been provided in an earlier series of questions and are on the record of the House.
