Dáil Éireann - Volume 462 - 05 March, 1996 Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher Service. Mr. Ring Mr. Ring 174. Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to appoint a remedial teacher for a national school (details supplied) in County Mayo which will also cover four neighbouring national schools in view of the fact that there is a need for these. [5026/96] Mr. Ring Mr. Ring 175. Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education the outcome of an inspector's visit to a national school (details supplied) in County Mayo. [5027/96] Mrs. O'Rourke Mrs. O'Rourke 185. Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education when schools that have applied for a remedial teacher will be informed of the decision on their case. [5098/96] Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach) Niamh Bhreathnach Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): I propose to take Questions Nos. 174, 175 and 185 together. I am not in a position at present to make a remedial teacher post available to the school referred to by the Deputy. Two members of my Department's primary inspectorate have recently visited the school; the first to carry out an assessment on the suitability for radio aids of two hearing impaired pupils, the second to identify any further special needs within the school. A radio aid has been sanctioned for the two children concerned. A report is expected shortly from the inspector regarding any further special needs in the school. My Department maintains a record of all schools which apply for a remedial teacher service. When I am in a position to extend the remediation service, the needs of all applicant schools, including the school mentioned by the Deputy, will be considered. All successful applicants will be notified at that stage. Dáil Éireann 462 Written Answers. Remedial Teacher Service. Questions 19960305
