Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for the Marine whether he has received a submission from Galway County Council for funding under the storm damage 1995 and coastal protection scheme or improvement works at the slipway and sea wall at Clifden beach, County Galway; and the current position regarding this application. [3461/96] Mr. Clohessy Mr. Clohessy 168. Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for the Marine if he has received an application from Galway County Council for grant aid for the repair of storm damage to Kilmurvey Pier, Aran Islands, County Galway under the marine programme of works; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3471/96] Minister for the Marine (Mr. Barrett) Minister for the Marine (Mr. Barrett) Minister for the Marine (Mr. Barrett): I propose to take Questions Nos. 166 and 168 together. 1717 No application has been received from Galway County Council in relation to the repair of storm damage to Kilmurvey Pier or the Slipway at Clifden. My Department does not fund repair works at landing facilities. Such works are a matter in the first instance for the relevant local authority, in this case, Galway County Council. The Department will in certain instances consider, grant aiding capital development [1717] works if they are in the fisheries interest. Furthermore, there is no storm damage funding mechanism available to my Department. Funding is only available to aid priority coastal protection works in instances where ongoing erosion is taking place. In this regard the Department grant aided a £75,000 protection scheme at Gurteen, Roundstone, County Galway, and a £100,000 protection scheme on Inishboffin, County Galway, during 1995.
