163. Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Education the representations, if any, she has had seeking the establishment of creche facilities at any university or college around the country; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3202/96]

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): I am not aware of any recent representations specifically relating to this issue. The establishment of creche facilities and other child care provisions in the universities and regional technical college-DIT sectors is a matter for the institutions themselves. I understand that a number of colleges in the university and regional technical college-DIT sectors either provide child care facilities or provide financial assistance to students in relation to child care costs in certain circumstances.
