119. Mr. Nolan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of the non-national road grants for each county; the length of the non-national roads in each county; the amount of grants per road miles for each county; and the increase for each county over 1995 allocations. [3007/96]

Minister for the Environment (Mr. Howlin): Details of the 1996 non-national road grant allocations and the percentage increase for each county [1008] over the 1995 allocations are contained in a booklet entitled Non-National Road Grant Allocations, 1996 which is available in the Oireachtas Library.

The length of the non-national roads and the amount of the 1996 grant allocations per kilometre for each county is set out in the following table. The major variations are largely accounted for by the fact that allocations under the schemes of EU co-financed improvement grants, including INTERREG, are project related, and can vary substantially from one area to another, and from year to year, depending on the [1009] projects selected for funding. Grantallocations under the remaining headings [1010] are based in the main on the road lengths in each county.
