Dáil Éireann - Volume 459 - 12 December, 1995 Written Answers. - Compulsory Carrier Stops. Ms F. Fitzgerald Ms F. Fitzgerald 175. Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if new carriers travelling between North America and Dublin are inhibited by the rule providing for a compulsory stop in one direction; and the proposals, if any, he has to remove this one way stop requirement. [18664/95] Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications (Mr. Lowry) Michael Lowry 1188 Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications (Mr. Lowry): There is no requirement for a compulsory stop in one direction on air services between Ireland and the US under the [1188] Ireland/US Air Services Agreement as amended in October, 1993. The agreement does however require that services to Dublin must be matched with equivalent services to Shannon in a 12 month period. Under the Ireland/Canada Air Services Agreement, scheduled services may only operate to and from Shannon while charter services must operate via Shannon in one direction at least. I have no plans at present to change the existing bilateral arrangements for air services between Ireland and the US and Canada. Dáil Éireann 459 Written Answers. Compulsory Carrier Stops.
