Written Answers. - TV3 Cost.

19. Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will introduce the necessary regulations to ensure that the output from TV3 is carried by all licensed cable companies without any extra cost to the subscriber in the event of the establishment of an independent television service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14844/95]

[1284] Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications (Mr. Lowry): The Radio and Television Act, 1988 already requires, at section 17, that a new television service of the kind mentioned by the Deputy is to be carried by cable licensees. That would imply that there should be no extra cost. I will have the matter examined in good time before any new service is up and running and if necessary establish whether any new regulations would be required in order to give effect to the provision of the new service.
