Kenny asked the Minister for Education if she will provide a replacement for the child care assistant who is currently off duty at a school (details supplied) in Dublin 17. [9673/95] Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach) Niamh Bhreathnach Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): I understand that the child care assistant referred to by the Deputy is employed in the early start pre-school programme. Under this programme, each pre-school class caters for 15 children and is staffed by a national school teacher and a qualified childcare assistant. In addition, parents are encouraged to participate with their children in the activities of the pre-school under the direction of the school personnel. Under present arrangements there is no provisions for substitute cover in the case of absence from duty of a child care assistant. Dáil Éireann 453 Written Answers. Early Start Pre-School Programme.
