Dáil Éireann - Volume 453 - 24 May, 1995

Written Answers. - Clonmel (Tipperary) Main Guard.

81. Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the progress, if any, that has been made regarding the restoration of the Main Guard, Clonmel; and when this process will commence. [9556/95]

Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht (Mr. M. Higgins): Before the authentic restoration of the Main Guard can commence, a significant level of investigation is required including an archaeological excavation and a detailed examination of the building. Modern additions to the Main Guard have been removed and a trial archaeological excavation has been completed. A comprehensive architectural survey of the building is in progress at present.

The restoration of the Main Guard is not expected to be completed before 1999.
