Dáil Éireann - Volume 452 - 10 May, 1995

Written Answers. - No-Smoking Areas.

39. Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health if the regulations for no smoking areas in hotel dining rooms and restaurants also apply in bars and lounges which serve pub grub and meals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8456/95]

Minister for Health (Mr. Noonan, Limerick East): The regulations prohibiting smoking in designated areas in restaurants and cafés do not apply in bars and lounges serving food. While the regulations in this area are kept under ongoing review, it has been felt to date that there would be considerable practical difficulties in attempting to operate designated smoking and no-smoking areas within bars and lounges.
