Written Answers. - Labour Court Pay Recommendation.

[928] 25. Mr. Nolan asked the Minister for Education the reason a Labour Court recommendation (details supplied) to her Department and the MSF unions in relation to regional technical colleges has not been fully implemented; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2944/95]

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): Labour Court recommendation dated 13 November 1992, referred to, was that higher order attendants in regional technical colleges be linked with class aides in the Dublin Institute of Technology for the purposes of establishing pay levels. The pay of higher order attendants was increased to the level of class aides with effect from 1 January, 1993. Accordingly, my Department considers that it has honoured in full the terms of the Labour Court Recommendation.

I am aware that the trade union representing the grade concerned has recently sought the payment of special allowances to higher order attendants. This claim is separate from the issues determined in the Labour Court recommendation and should be pursued through the normal industrial relations' procedures and under the terms of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work Pay Agreement.
