115. Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment when he expects to receive the report from the Competition Authority regarding Independent Newspapers' proposal for the Irish Press. [1760/95]

Minister for Enterprise and Employment (Mr. R. Bruton): On 29 December 1994 I requested the Competition Authority to extend their inquiry into the newspaper industry, which is being carried out under section 11 of the Competition Act, 1991, to include the issue of dominance in the industry with particular reference to the Independent Group taking a financial interest in Irish Press plc and to let me have an interim report on this particular matter at an early date.

I hope to have the authority's interim report next month.
