Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to fill remedial teacher posts to cover the Cong, Neale, Cross and Quay Schools, Westport, County Mayo, which would cover Brackloon, Drummin, Murrisk and Lecanvey Schools in West Mayo; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): In 1994, I announced the appointment of an additional 100 [1413] remedial teachers to the primary sector. This brings the total number of such posts now in place to 1,133. These appointments were made on the basis of priority of need following the collection of data from schools by my Department's primary inspectorate. I will be keeping the question of further need in this area under review and the needs of all schools, including the schools referred to by the Deputy, will be considered in this context.
