107. Mrs. Owen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will make a protest to the Kenyan Government over the deportation of a [1001] priest (details supplied) from Kitui in September 1994. [2371/94]

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Spring): I am aware of and concerned about reports that the Kenyan authorities have asked a priest of the Kiltegan Fathers to leave the country. I understand that the priest in question has worked in Kenya since 1973 and is a widely-respected organiser of development projects on behalf of a Waterford-based charitable organisation. I am awaiting a full report about the background to this case from our Honorary Consul in Nairobi and I will then consider a protest to the Kenyan Government.
