200. Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Education the meetings, if any, she has had with Bus Éireann to discuss the proposed increase in school bus charges; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): I have had no meetings with Bus Éireann on this matter.

As an element of their general fare policy, Bus Éireann applied to the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications, for an increase in fares.

I can confirm that the increases sought do not include charges for school bus services, operated for my Department by Bus Éireann, under the school transport scheme.
