4. Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance when work will commence on the improvement and renovation of the provision of additional facilities at Listowel Garda Station, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister of State at the Department of Finance (Mr. Dempsey): I have been informed by the Commissioners of Public Works that a major scheme of works involving refurbishment of the existing Garda Station and conversion of the adjacent official residence is at present at planning stage.

When plans are prepared they will be submitted for approval to the Department of Justice who will then allocate a priority to the scheme.

However, the Department of Justice have indicated that, having regard to overall priorities throughout the country and available resources, it is unlikely that work will commence before 1995.
