145. Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the inadequate canteen and sports facilities at the National College of Art and Design; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): It is recognised that there are some inadequate facilities at the National College of Art and Design. With a view to improving the situation provision has been made for a Phase 3 development at the college in my Department's submission to the European Union for funding under the European Regional Development Fund programme 1994-99.

While the proposal is not specifically targeted at the provision of canteen and sport facilities the development when completed will contribute greatly towards resolving the college's space problems.
