134. Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement in relation to Parliamentary Question [1792] No. 258 of 29 March 1994, regarding a person who was allegedly sexually abused over a prolonged period; the current situation; if the Eastern Health Board has carried out an assessment; and if the person concerned is receiving the necessary treatment.

Minister for Health (Mr. Howlin): As I indicated to the Deputy on 29 March in my reply to his earlier question about this case, the provision of assessment services in individual cases is a matter for the relevant health board. The Eastern Health Board has assigned a social worker to the case and the child's needs for services are currently being examined. I have asked the chief executive officer of the health board to expedite this examination and to let the Deputy know the outcome as quickly as possible.
