67. Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice if she will announce, in respect of payment of fines, the introduction of an easy payments system in respect of those on low pay or in receipt of social welfare payments.

Minister for Justice (Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn): I refer the Deputy to my reply to Questions Nos. 1, 3, 12 and 19 of 14 October 1993 in which I indicated that the introduction of a system of payment of fines by instalments is being considered in the context of a general review which I have under way in this area. Any legislative [1762] proposals I may have in relation to the matter will be announced in the usual way.
