Dáil Éireann - Volume 440 - 29 March, 1994 Written Answers. - Nursing Home Registration. Mr. Davern Mr. Davern 262. Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Health the main reason nursing homes have been refused registration in County Tipperary (SR). Mr. Davern Mr. Davern 263. Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Health the number of nursing homes which have applied for registration in County Tipperary (SR) to date; the number which have been approved for registration; the number refused registration; the length of time required to process an application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Health (Mr. Howlin) Brendan Howlin Minister for Health (Mr. Howlin): I propose to take Questions Nos. 262 and 263 together. There are 14 nursing homes known to the South Eastern Health Board in the Tipperary South Riding. To date 11 of these homes have applied to the board for registration. Of these 11 homes, five have been registered by the board and a further two homes are likely to be approved in the near future. Registration of four has been delayed pending receipt of further documentation. 1660 A number of problems has arisen in the registration of nursing homes in South Tipperary. These include difficulties encountered by the homes in getting adequate certification regarding fire precautions, inadequate room sizes and in providing details of nurses employed in the homes. Where all the requirements of the Nursing Homes Act have been met by a nursing home, there have been no [1660] delays in processing applications for registration. Dáil Éireann 440 Written Answers.
