Written Answers. - Road Improvements.

80. Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment the position regarding the submission from Dublin County Council for the dualling of the N1 from the Coachman's to Swords; if this provides for the acquisition of additional land take to facilitate the replacement of existing dwellings; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for the Environment (Mr. M. Smith): My Department approved Dublin County Council's tender documents for the dualling of the N1 between Cloghran, Coachman's roundabout and Pinnock Hill on 1 December 1993. The council's proposals made no provision for the acquisition of additional land but the council sought funding for the relocation of six houses within their existing sites so as to mitigate the effects of traffic noise. They were informed that the cost involved was not acceptable as a charge against road grants.
