87. Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Health the number of children in care for each of the years 1990, 1991 and 1992; and the number to date in 1993.

Minister for Health (Mr. Howlin): My Department carries out an annual survey of children in the care of health boards. The following table sets out the information sought by the Deputy for the years 1990 and 1991.

No information is as yet available in my Department for 1992 as the data is still being collected from the health boards. The matter is being actively pursued with the boards. The survey of children currently in care is not due to commence until the end of the year.
