35. Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Finance if he is considering the taxation of private pension funds on a continuing basis; if such a proposal will affect pensioners receiving a pension from a private pension fund; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Finance (Mr. B. Ahern): In my Budget Statement this year, I indicated that I was not proposing to alter the current tax status of pension funds. Given that this position has not changed in the interim, there is no cause for concern by those in receipt of pensions from private pension funds in this regard.
