Miss Harney Miss Harney
89. Miss Harney asked the Minister for Defence if, in view of the noise pollution and nuisance caused to residents in the vicinity of Baldonnel Airport by planes on training flights flying low, he will give the measures, if any, he will take to eliminate this noise pollution and nuisance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Minister for Defence (Mr. Andrews) Minister for Defence (Mr. Andrews)
Minister for Defence (Mr. Andrews): The position is that while any inconvenience is very much regretted it is virtually impossible for the Air Corps to avoid flying over built-up areas which are in close proximity to Casement Aerodrome despite the careful selection of flight paths and the maintenance of rigid safety procedures. All Air Corps pilots are acutely aware of the need to minimise any nuisance caused by flying over built-up areas and such flying is kept to the minimum necessary.
