58. Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the number of people who were murdered in each of the years for the [1307] period 1982 to 1992; the cause of death and the success of the Garda investigations in each case.

Minister for Justice (Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn): The number of recorded crimes classified as murder by the Garda Síochána for the period 1982 to 1992 and the number of detections is set out in the following tabular statement. The Garda authorities inform me that the information requested by the Deputy in relation to the cause of death is not readily available and could be obtained only by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of Garda time and resources.
