Adjournment Debate Matters.
An Leas-Cheann Comhairle Joe Jacob
An Leas-Cheann Comhairle: I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Jim Higgins — the failure of the Minister for Enterprise and Employment to make available the necessary funds in order to enable the hundreds of projects organised by communities and local authorities to go ahead under the social employment scheme; Deputy Dukes — the threat posed to rural communities by proposals to impose an off-farm income limit in the context of the headage payments scheme; Deputy Finucane — the need to define the future of the Stella Maris Convent, Foynes, County Limerick, in order to allay fears in view of its refusal to accept students for the 1993-94 academic year and also in view of its impending closure in 1995; Deputy Matt Brennan — the way in which moneys are collected by the Irish Music Rights Organisation and Phonographic Performance (Ireland) Limited for the public performance of copyright music; Deputy Leonard — the need to examine the outturn of the 1989-93 operational programme for the north-west sub-region before funding for the 1994-97 programme is approved; Deputy Doyle — the imminent closure of Wexmann Trousers and the loss of 109 jobs in Wexford town; Deputy Seán Ryan — the implications of the proposals by the management of Team Aer Lingus to implement substantial short-time working for its staff during the summer months; Deputy Rabbitte — the announcement by the Government of a tax amnesty for “hot” money held abroad and the implications of this move for enforcement of the tax laws generally; Deputy Deenihan — the need for the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry to withdraw Agriculture House, Oakpark, Tralee, County Kerry, from public auction in view of its architectural value and cultural potential and to ensure that it is retained in public ownership; Deputy Creed — the need for immediate ratification of the European Convention on Transfer of Sentenced Persons and Deputy Allen — whether the proposed new An Bord Bia will be located in Blarney. County Cork, as this would project an appropriate image for such an organisation.
The Ceann Comhairle has selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Rabbitte; J. Higgins, M. Brennan and Dukes.
