54. Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Finance if his Department will provide funding for a carpark at the Old Abbey, Golden, County Tipperary; his views on the necessity for such provision; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister of State at the Department of Finance (Mr. Dempsey): I take it that the Deputy's question relates to Athassel Abbey. I am aware that Tipperary SR County Council has been in contact with the landowner about providing car parking facilities for visitors to the abbey, but that no agreement was reached. The Office of Public Works is supportive of the council's efforts and is willing to contribute to the costs at the appropriate time.
