164. Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide the finance requested by South Tipperary County Council for road improvements necessary for the hosting of the National Ploughing Championships in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for the Environment (Mr. M. Smith): The roads referred to are non-national roads, the maintenance and improvement of which is a matter for Tipperary South Riding County Council. The financing of such works is by way of the authority's own resources, supplemented by the annual discretionary grants from my Department. These grants for Tipperary South Riding in 1993 total £1,777,000. The funds available this year for grants for non-national roads have been fully allocated. There are no other sources from which I could make further grants.
