113. Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in respect of his Department or of his Ministers [237] of State, he will give the names of any persons or agents, other than the established Civil Service, appointed by him to any position within the ambit of his Department since 10 February 1993; if he will give their job descriptions, terms of employment and salary scale; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs (Mr. Spring): In the period referred to by the Deputy, I have made one appointment in the Department of Foreign Affairs: Ms. Catherine Murphy was appointed to the position of Personal Secretary on 15 February. She is on the Clerical Assistant pay-scale and is currently receiving a weekly salary of £160.72 which is the third point on that scale.

In the period referred to, the following three appointments have been made in the Office of the Tánaiste: Mr. William Scally, Senior Policy Adviser, Salary: £34,000 per annum; Mr. Finbar O'Malley, BL, Legal Adviser/Draughtsman, Salary: £34,500 per annum; Ms. Doreen McHale, Personal Secretary, Salary: £225.92 per week.

The appointments have been made to full-time, temporary and unestablished positions and are in accordance with the usual contractual requirements of the Department of Finance.
