19. Mr. Martin asked the Minister for the Environment the number of local authority housing starts which will be sanctioned this year under Cork Corporation's housing programme, in view of the shortage of housing in the city at present.

Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment the way in which he proposes to distribute the 1993 allocation for new local authority housing starts to the housing authorities around the country; the relative criteria of need he proposes to apply to the different authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment (Mr. Stagg): I propose to take Questions Nos. 19 and 50 together. Details of the authorised programmes for the individual housing authorities for 1993, which total 3,500 new starts and which are being notified to them today, are set out in a tabular statement which I am having circulated in the Official Report. This statement also shows the corresponding figures for 1992. The numbers of houses for the individual authorities have been determined having regard to the needs shown in the latest assessment carried out under section 9 of the Housing Act, 1988 and taking into account also output under the voluntary house schemes.
